The Post I Didn’t Write

Peter Pan! I just figured out I have not updated this since they invented sliced bread… You would not believe how insane my life has become. I hope you still love me!.

I am absolutely consumed with sleeping my way to the top, driving from one end of the city to the other, just generally being a nuisance to society in general, my day often feels wasted from 4am to 11pm at which point I fall asleep on the couch. I am so exhausted but who cares.

I swear on the bones of my ancestors if one more person emails me to ask why I haven’t posted today I will start posting pictures of toe fungus, or fecal murals. You wanna test me? Assuming I don’t get distracted by counting my chest hairs..

I know, it says I wrote it, but I didn’t. Honest. Its from The Lazy Bloggers Post Generator, launched today over at Aussie Bloggers. The possibilities are amazing so go and have a play and see what you come up with.

Its been just over six months since the Forum was launched and the Blog was launched 3 weeks later. Its a great place to meet people who are willing to share a wealth of information about blogging. THere are also lots of other discussions going on about a huge range of subjects from “What’s for Dinner” to Dexter which has just started on free-to-air TV over here. Finally, I can read the Dexter thread :)

So if you’re an Aussie, a blogger or just want to meet a great bunch of people and learn more about blogging then wander over to the Forum and say “Hi”.

It’s All Good - So Far

After 5 months of assignments, study, lectures, online quizzes and exams, first semester is over. Well, actually it was over at the end of June at the end of the exams butthere has been an agonising wait for the results. And they’re in!!! And they’re better than I was expecting. But before I give you all the gory details, a bit about my worst nightmare - my computer unit.

We had 3 assignments to do as well as a weekly online quiz and participation in online discussions, generally and answering specific questions. Due to human error (mine!!) and computer errors (theirs) 2 of the 3 assignments were 5 days or more late which equals a big fat “0″ for my mark. Let me tell you, they aren’t very forgiving with time frames. So I went in to the exam knowing that I had to pull some kind of super human effort to get me a pass for the unit. I figured that I was probably on about 50% overall for the unit or less so needed to get myself over the line. And all the subjects this semester had about 30% of the overall mark for assignments etc and 70% for the exam. Ugh……..

Exam day arrives and we knew that we had 50 multiple choice questions and 5 short answer questions to make up the 100% of the exam. Somehow the exam was sent out with a few “small” typos. Instead of a, b, c, d for the multiple choice, in that order, some were like that but most were a, c, b, d. So…… what to do??? Assume that the second answer in the list is B despite the fact that it has a C next to it, or go with the letter next to the answer. We were told to go with the letter next to the answer we wanted, but found out after the exam that different centres were told different things. Hmmm, like I needed more of a challenge. NOT!!!!!

So, the agonising wait started for the results. I felt pretty confident about the other 2 units - Microeconomics and Intro Accounting, but I was seriously worried about the computer unit. And the waiting continued.

Finally the results came through Friday afternoon - and I passed everything. That in itself is cause for celebration, given the ummm, glitches, that I had with computers. But, not only did I pass I have completely blown my own expectations of my results out of the water - I got a High Distinction for Accounting. I am so excited about it still.

But the best part: for me it means that I am coping with the workload, have an understanding of what we are studying and it gives me a huge confidence boost to keep going next semester, and the ones after that. It proves to me that the leap of faith that I have taken in myself, and my abilities, is justified. And don’t we all need a confidence boost every now and then????

So, for anyone sitting on the fence trying to decide whether to shoot for the moon or stay with what you know and what’s safe, I say, shoot for the moon. And then some. Believe in yourself. Its not always easy to do, but start with baby steps (for me that is one semester at a time) and go from there. If I thought about how long the course will take, then I wouldn’t have done it. Six years of studying just seems way too long, but a couple of subjects a semester is manageable.

Go on, got for it. If I can, anyone can.

6 Things Meme

Guera of Roaming Aussie Mum has tagged me for this meme. Go and check her place out if you haven’t already, I love her blog’s new look. Anyway, back to the meme. Here’s the rules:

I have to answer 6 questions about myself. At the end of the post, I then tag 6 people and post their names, then go to their blogs and leave them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read my blog. Then, I must let the person who tagged me know when I’ve posted my answers.

6 Places I Have Lived

  • Sydney, I have lived the majority of my life here, but to get the 6 places I have to break it down a bit
    • Family home where I grew up, on the Northern Beaches of Sydney
    • 2nd family home in the northern suburbs of Sydney
    • Our old house on this block of land, which we demolished in 2004
    • The house we currently live in which replaces the old house.
  • England, for a year in 1987
  • Canada, for a year in 1991/1992

What was I doing 10 years ago?

We had been married for 3 years, Tiger was 1 and in November 1998 I found out I was pregnant with Daisy.

I was learning Calligraphy, doing classes one night a week and loving it. I was working 3 days a week selling furniture.

Where will I be in 10 years time?? Who knows. Hopefully I will have finished Uni, Tiger will have finished school and Daisy will be almost finished. Apart from that, I am not even going to try and guess what the future holds for me.

5 Things on My To-Do List Today

  1. Washing, Folding and Ironing
  2. Order text books for Semester 2 for Uni
  3. Tidy and organise a few rooms in the house that badly need it
  4. Wash my car (depending on the weather of course)
  5. Read a book

Snacks I like to eat

  • Cheese on Vita-Weats
  • PB & J sandwiches (I love seeing my kids reactions when they see me eating this)
  • Milk Chocolate
  • Camembert or Brie (I’m not fussy, either one will do)on wheaten biscuits. If I am feeling very extravagant, a creamy blue cheese with rockmelon (no biscuit). Mmmmm yummy

If I was a billionaire

The first thing that I would do would be to pay our mortgage off. Then give some to family or buy a house for them. Some of them would be better off without a wad of cash :) Then I would put some in trust for the kids until they are older and wiser, and pay all their school fees for the next however many years. Then I would buy myself one of my dream cars and go cruising for a few months.

I would give some money to the business so that we can build our own premises just the way that we want them. And like Guera, pay a great big lump of money to our local kids hospital. Neither of my kids have had major health issues but Daisy has been in there three times for operations as well as an emergency visit when she stuck her finger in Tiger’s bike chain. The staff there were absolutely fantastic every time we have been and I would not hesitate to go back there or to recommend it to anyone that unfortunately needs their kids to go to hospital. I would probably also make donations to research specifically related to kids. I’m not sure which one though, there’s not one in particular that I can think of.

And I don’t really want billions, millions would do, even one million would be fine. Its all a dream though, a nice dream though. And we all need dreams don’t we.
