Rosemary and Poppies

Two of the symbols of ANZAC Day are Rosemary and red Flanders poppies. There are many others, such as the playing of the Last Post (which gives me goosebumps every time I hear it), laying of wreaths and a game of two-up.

For Australians and New Zealanders today commemorates those who fought at Gallipoli, and the many thousands who lost their lives along with all those who have fought in any other military operations that Australia has been involved in. It is also a day to remember those who lost loved ones or friends.

 Today is our chance to say thank you to those who have given of themselves so that we may live freely and have the ability to make choices about how we live. None of us should ever underestimate that.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

If there is anything you need to know about ANZAC day, check out the  Australian War Memorial website - there is a wealth of information there.
