What Not To Do On Your Wedding Night

This week DH and I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary. And in a couple of weeks we have a work function on that means we will stay in the city for the night. So, something was mentioned about staying at the hotel we stayed at on our wedding night. Then tonight on one of the travel shows was a special for said hotel – about $400 cheaper than on Wotif. Now that’s a bargain. All this talk of our wedding and the hotel reminds me of our wedding night.

The day of our wedding, I think it was my Dad that grabbed my bag and the dress that I had chosen to wear the next day. The bag and dress were put in the car and taken to the church, then the reception venue. They were taken out of the car and stayed at the reception until we went in another car to the hotel. I took the bag and the dress in with me when we checked in.

There was champagne in the room waiting for us when we checked in. So, of course we cracked open the bottle of champagne and talked, and talked and talked. Until about 3am. I think that we were running on pure adrenaline after the excitement of the day and the whole build up to it. We went through every tiny detail of what happened during the day.

So about 3am I decided that I should probably try and get out the 50 bazillion bobby pins holding my hair up in a French roll, ably assisted by the three cans of hairspray and one can of hair mouse. And then the next thing was to get a weeks worth of makeup off my face. So, of course the logical thing to do would be to get my makeup remover, cleanser, hairbrush and any other implements that I would need out of my bag.

Guess what??????

The bloody bag was empty.

Nothing, nada, nil, zip!!!!!! This bloody bag had been almost from one end of Sydney to the other and it was empty.

So how am I going to get the makeup off and the hairspray out of my hair so I can sleep, let alone what am I going to wear the next day to actually walk out of the hotel?????

I had to improvise. I used DH’s brush after getting out the bazillion bobby pins, and soap and water on my face to get the makeup off. And there was shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom – never have I been so glad to see freebies in a hotel room.
So, there you have it. What not to do on your Wedding Night. If there’s any brides to be reading this, make sure at the top of your list of things to do in Caps is:

PACK YOUR BLOODY BAG

And make sure you do it. No matter what else needs to be done, there are some things you just need. Even on your wedding night.

    LOL

Yup, packing one’s bag is a definite plan!

I was lucky with my wedding night… no bobby pins, no hairspray, no makeup to wash off.

Although my hubby was temporarily hospitalised the next day… whoops!

    LOL Gemisht!

I agree WS, I want to hear Naomi’s wedding tale now………..

I didn’t have to worry about the bag thing on my wedding night. One of the advantages of getting married in your own backyard and sleeping in your own bed! lol

*snort* first thing I check before I leave for anywhere is my makeup and paraphernalia is there. I would have made MPS go and find me replacements, LOL.

Well if that was the worst thing then man your wedding was idyllic!

Naomi – I so want to ask what happened to your hubby but just not sure I should even ask LOL

Anonymum – Well yes, I probably should have packed it but I was trying to make sure that the Order of Service was right (finally!!!!!!!) and a couple of other things on my mind. And I was excited – I hadn’t seen DH for a week and couldn’t wait to get to the Church :)

Nikki – But do you really want to know. I do but I don’t – if that makes sense…..

Bettina – that’s cheating isn’t it??? I’m sure it must be

Kelley – well yes, needless to say I always check that sort of thing now. And yes that was really the biggest problem that we had apart from printing the order of service and my suspender belt coming undone – outside the Church afterwards and while talking to my Grandfather – very difficult to keep a straight face. And yes it was idyllic. And magical. One day I will get the scanner to work and scan some photos :)

For those who are REALLY curious, I wrote a big lonnnnng post all about the wedding, inspired by Gemisht’s effort. Although I went way overboard. But it mentions the reason for the hospital visit! I think it’ll be displaying tomorrow.

After reading Naomi’s wedding story about how she entertained *cough* hubby into hospital, I had to check out your story. Um… what DID you wear the next day?

Naomi – great post and thanks for enlightening us – for a while there I wasn’t sure if we really wanted to know what happened :)

Anja – thankfully we had organised my parents to pick us up from the hotel the next morning, so I rang them, gave them the list of what I needed and they arrived with everything that I needed. I had the dress with me but nothing else. I ’spose I could have gone commando LOL
